AGP Committee Volunteer Opportunities

AGP has opportunities for you to participate by volunteering to serve on our committees. We presently have openings for volunteers on our Admissions Committee, Examination Sub-committee, and Marketing Committee. The Admissions Committee reviews applications and provides recommendations for action to the Board of Trustees. The Examination Sub-committee provides subject matter experts for the oral examinations. The Marketing Committee has two major thrusts: internal to grow the Academy, and

external to increase the visibility and awareness of the Academy to the beneficiaries of our profession. Please e-mail AGP at info@geoprofessionals.org if you are willing to serve on one of our committees along with your area of interest.

Certification Renewal

Renewal notices were sent out in mid-May to the first class of Diplomates.  Payment of the fee will renew the certification for the next two years.  A second notice was sent again on June 1st.  If you have not had a chance to renew your certification with the Academy yet, please visit our website or email the AGP Administrator - info@geoprofessionals.org.  Those Diplomates who were certified last fall in Hershey or this past spring in West Palm Beach will receive a renewal notice in April 2011.

Sponsorship Opportunities

AGP would like to provide your company the opportunity for additional recognition by sponsoring an upcoming event. If you would like to sponsor AGP at an upcoming induction ceremony, please contact AGP Staff at info@geoprofessionals.org.  AGP will provide appropriate visibility of your support.

Help Us Recruit Diplomates!

Do you know someone who would qualify to become a Diplomate? Encourage them to apply, direct them to our website to see a list of their colleagues who are certified as AGP Diplomates (D.GE). One of our goals is to increase the visibility and awareness of the D.GE certification program. The requirements for certification are listed in detail on our website. The basic requirements include:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an ABET accredited school
  • A Master’s Degree (or 30 additional credits of graduate level education) related to geotechnical engineering
  • PE license or foreign equivalent
  • 8 year’s post-licensure progressive experience
  • Demonstrate achievement with oral examination (examination may be waived if the applicant has 25 years of appropriate professional geotechnical experience)

President’s Message:

The Academy of Geo-Professionals has reached a milestone by certifying over 150 experienced Geotechnical Engineers.  We have granted certification by both recognizing achievement by eminence and by oral examination.  This is just a start, however, to develop and grow a vigorous certification program.  To do so will require considerable and significant ongoing effort by our Diplomates.  This is not a singular event, but a vision for the future. A visionary is someone who plants a tree realizing that they will not fully enjoy the shade.  Please help us plant and nurture the Academy.  You can do this by:

·        Payment of your recertification fees,

·        Supporting AGP events with sponsorships,

·        Serving on committees,

·        Proudly displaying your credentials

·        Describing to clients, employers, and agencies the benefits offered by Academy Board Certified experts.

The Board of Trustees met last month in Denver to review the Geotechnical Engineering Body of Knowledge (BoK) and the levels of Achievement appropriate for recognition by Certification.  This BoK builds on the Civil Engineering Body of Knowledge for the 21st Century (Second Edition) published by ASCE.  The BoK will be used by the Trustees in reviewing applications and formulating examinations.  A summary of the AGP BoK is expected to be approved by the Trustees early this fall.

In closing, the AGP Trustees appreciate your support of the Academy’s objective and goal to adhere to our mission of fostering and encouraging professional development and lifelong learning.  If you have any questions or suggestions, please contact me at arippe@kleinfelder.com
